E sem a música
tradicional irlandesa, a vida seria extremamente tediosa!
Afinal, o vigor e a energia
da música tradicional da Irlanda é contagiante e influencia
- direta ou indiretamente - muitos estilos e artistas modernos.
Em perfeita consonância
com a tradição dos bardos celtas da Irlanda,
minhas apresentações são uma mistura de música
e informação, um painel musical que ofereça
à audiência um contato com as tradições da
Ilha Esmeralda, suas terras, seus mitos, suas gentes, sua história...
THE DRUNKEN BARDS PROJECT
A música tradicional
irlandesa é muito rica e diversificada: baladas belíssimas,
poemas musicados, animadíssimas reels e jigs, canções
de beleza tocante...
Em minhas performances, procuro
adequar o repertório a cada ocasião - sempre, claro, entremeando
as canções com as histórias, lendas, fatos e curiosidades
que as envolvem e que dão à apresentação um
conteúdo que leve a platéia a compreender melhor os temas
abordados nos versos das letras.
Meu objetivo é, como
os bardos da Irlanda medieval, manter viva a chama e a magia do espírito
da Irlanda!
O que há num nome...
O nome 'Drunken Bards Project'
é um lembrete de que este é um projeto aberto, em andamento,
em desenvolvimento. Não se trata de um show fixo, pois o repertório
varia; nem tampouco é uma banda, pois os parceiros variam - isso
quando não me apresento só!
A flexibilidade do termo "Project"
é uma forma de manter este trabalho livre, sem amarras, para que
ele - e não eu ou outro indivíduo - tenha a liberdade de
se manifestar de forma inspirada e inspiradora.
A palavra "Drunken"
pressupõe a 'embriaguez' trazida pelo contentamento de fazer música
- e, claro, a essência da música irlandesa de pub, geralmente
regada a muita Guinness e whiskey...

A MÚSICA
E EU
Do rock à música
tradicional irlandesa, a música sempre fez parte da minha vida.
Neto de um maestro, filho de um multi-instrumentista amador, sobrinho
de professores de piano e saxofone, seresteiros... cedo ou tarde, era
inevitável que essa veia musical latejasse e exigisse atenção...
Eu cresci ouvindo de tudo:
de MPB a heavy metal, de samba a rock progressivo, da música clássica
ao pop... fosse o rádio da minha mãe, os LPs de minha irmã
ou as fitas cassete de meu pai, nossa casa quase nunca estava em silêncio.
Meu primeiro contato com um instrumento musical foi aos 14 anos, quando
comecei a tocar guitarra, inspirado pelas bandas de rock dos anos 1970
e 1980. Pouco tempo depois, em 1986, subi ao palco pela primeira vez,
com a banda Metropolis, participando do famoso FICO - o festival de música
do Colégio Objetivo, em São Paulo.
Ao longo de minha juventude,
formei e participei de várias bandas de rock, nenhuma com grande
destaque. O ritmo da vida acabou por me afastar por alguns anos dos instrumentos,
mas a amizade com artistas do quilate das bandas Merrow e Dundalk despertou
novamente em mim o desejo irresistível de dar à minha inspiração
uma voz.
Logo eu estava novamente com
um violão ao pescoço, fazendo participações
especiais nas apresentações dessas duas bandas queridas
- e não levou muito tempo para eu perceber o óbvio: a minha
veia musical se unia ao meu amor pelas coisas da Irlanda.
O resultado, claro, foi a definição
de um repertório com alguns dos maiores clássicos da música
irlandesa que me permitisse mostrar outra faceta do universo dos bardos:
a música que informa.
Em 2008, minha participação
no "Samhain - Ano Novo Celta no O'Malley's" - ao lado das bandas
Merrow e Dundalk - marcou minha volta aos palcos. Logo
depois, veio o III Irish Fest do St. John's Pub, e as sucessivas apresentações
indicavam que um novo projeto estava já em andamento...

And without Traditional
Irish Music, life would be utterly boring!
Afterall, the vigour and energy
of Traditional Irish music is highly contagious and influences
- direct or indirectly - many musical styles and modern artists.
In league with the ancient
Bardic tradition of Celtic Ireland, my performances are
a mix of music and information - a musical pannel that
aims at offering the audience a deeper contact with the traditions that
come from the Emerald Isle, her lands, her myths, her people, her history...
THE DRUNKEN BARDS PROJECT
Traditional Irish music is
very rich and encompasses several styles: haunting ballads, rhythmic poems,
lively reels and jigs, songs of poignant beauty...
In my performances, I try to
adapt the repertoire to the needs and goals of each occasion - always
combining the songs with tales, legends, facts and peculiarities surrounding
and springing from the lyrics in a way that the audience is led to a better
understanding of the themes in the verses.
As with the bards of mediaeval
ireland, my goal is to keep alive the flame and the magic of the Spirit
of Ireland!
What's in a name...
The name "Drunken bards
Project" is a clear reminder that this is an open project, in constant
progress and development. It is not a fixed show, because the repertoire
varies from a gig to another; nor is it a band, because in each performance
I might play alongside different musicians - not to mention solo performances!
The flexibility of the word
"Project" is a way of keeping this
work free and boundless, so that it - and not me nor any other person
- has the freedom to manifest iteslf in and inspired and inspiring way.
The word "drunken"
refers to the 'intoxication' brought forth when playing or listening to
good music - and, it goes without saying, connects us to the essence of
Irish pub music, usually tinted in Guinness black and whiskey golden...
And finally, the word Bard...
recovering the old bardic tradition of those musicians, poets and storytellers
that play so important and constant a part of Irish history. (for more

MUSIC AND ME
From rock to Trad Irish, music
has always been an important part of my life.
Being myself the grandson of a maestro, the son of an accomplished amateur
musician, the nephew of professional piano teachers, amateur saxophonists,
folk musicians... sooner or later, it was only natural that my musical
penchant would demand attention...
I grew up listening to basically
everything: from MPB (Brazilian popular music) to heavy metal, from samba
to progressive rock, from classical music to pop... was it through my
Mom's radio, my sister's vinyls or my Dad's cassettes, our home was seldom
silent. My first serious contact with a musical instrument came when I
was 14 and started taking guitar lessons, inspired by my favourite rock
bands from the 1970's and '80's. It didn't take long for me to hit the
stage for the first time: in 1986, with a short-lived rock outfit named
Metropolis during one of the most prestigious school festivals of my native
São Paulo.
Throughout my youth, I joined
and put up several rock bands - none of them really successful. The rhythm
of life took me away from music for a while, but my friendship with artists
as god as those from Merrow and Dundalk once again awoke the dormant musician
in me.
Soon I once again had a guitar
strapped around me, playing as a guest in some of these friends' gigs
- and it didn't take me much time to reach the obvious conclusion: my
musical strain had joined my passion for all things Irish - especially
her music.
The result was the definition
of a repertoire with some of the most important classics of Irish music,
a selection that would allow me to show another aspect of Bardism: music
that informs.
In 2008, when I played solo
at O'Malley's Irish Pub during "Samhain - O'Malley's Celtic New Year
celebration", that gig marked my official return to the stages. A
couple of months later I played at the "3rd Irish Fest" at St.
John's Irish Pub, and a string of other performances - St. Patrick's Day
2009, Immigrants Festival 2009 and others - clearly indicated that a new
musical process was up and running...
The rest, as they say, is history
